Lenovo IdeaPad S10 – Netbook Review

Lenovo conceived the IdeaPad S10 because it wants in on the netbook sales profits. The Ideapad S10 is Lenovo’s answer to Asus’ EeePC subnotebook line as well as other competing brands.

Asus developed the EeePC subnotebook two years ago. Buyers were smitten with subnotebooks because of its light weight, low price, Linux OS and solid-state drive. To fill users’ new laptop needs, competitors had to manufacture and market their own low-priced subnotebooks as the EeePC’s were selling really, really fast.

The EeePC phenomenon resulted in the market’s saturation of the netbook. These devices are light, small and cheap. Netbook features are pretty basic, enabling users to do simple tasks like Internet browsing, general computing and running rich Internet applications.

In terms of its looks, the Lenovo S10 is sold in various colors like blue, black, pink, white, and red. The netbook is currently priced from $330 to $350.

The Lenovo S10 is powered by an Intel Atom 1.6Ghz processor with a RAM capacity from 512MB up to 1GB DDR2. This netbook runs on the Windows XP Home Edition operating system and is supplied with 2 USB ports, ExpressCard expansion slot and VGA output. The IdeaPad S10 also has a multi-card media reader (4-in-1) that offers users file transfer convenience.

Specifications:

Pros:

Its main selling point is its captivating looks and its solid framework and it has a matte-finish plastic outer case, which makes the IdeaPad S10 easy to handle.

Cons:

The Lenovo Lenovo S10, however, has a short battery life and has the tendency to heat up faster than other netbooks.

Conclusion:

The Lenovo S10 comes out as a top netbook because of its attractive looks, features and affordable price. However, Lenovo must innovate further as new models of competitors’ netbooks might just manage to nudge the Lenova IdeaPad S10 from the top.
